014Michael D. Horton - Pastor

On Sunday, March 30, 2014 the membership of Encouraging Word Baptist Church elected our first Pastor.  In a unanimous vote, Rev. Michael David Horton was elected as our first full-time Pastor.  This followed an extensive two year process conducted by the Pastor Search Team.

Michael and his lovely wife Erin are the proud parents of three children: Jeremy, Samantha and Elijah.  They believe God's design for the family is essential to building strong homes, churches and communities.

Michael has been actively involved in missions since 1997 and encourages others to pray, give and go. Sharing Christ should be a natural part of our lives as we love God and love others.  Being mission-minded is essential to the church's culture and DNA. Michael has a heart for seeing God glorified through the local church. He believes a healthy church is a gospel-centered church.  We must recognize our need of God's grace and preach Jesus everywhere.

Michael loves humor, college basketball, music and being outdoors.  He is a graduate of the University of North Carolina in Greensboro and Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary in Wake Forest, NC.  He also serves as a New Testament professor at Fruitland Baptist Bible College in Hendersonville, NC.

"We hope that you will become part of our family this Sunday at Encouraging Word." - The Hortons
